Our client, a well-established construction firm based in Grand Rapids, is seeking a Project Estimator to join their close-knit and collaborative team. This is a key, on-site role with direct exposure to ownership and mentorship from leadership with deep field experience. If you have a strong understanding of commercial construction estimating and enjoy the mix of analytical work and client interaction, this could be a great fit.
In this position, you'll play a critical role in shaping the company's project pipeline by preparing detailed cost estimates and building strong relationships with general contractors. You'll be interpreting architectural drawings, building take-offs, and using Excel-based tools to assemble complete, competitive bids for large-scale commercial projects.

What You'll Do
Interpret architectural and structural drawings to develop detailed material, labor, and equipment take-offs.
Build and maintain cost estimates using a custom Excel-based bidding tool.
Analyze project scope, propose value-engineering options, and develop bid strategies.
Communicate directly with general contractors to present bids, clarify scope, and build relationships.
Collaborate with operations and project management teams during project hand-offs and change order pricing.
Maintain accurate documentation and stay current with construction market pricing trends.


What You Bring
2+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent Excel skills; ability to manage and manipulate data in complex bid sheets.
Strong communication skills; comfortable interacting with GCs and vendors.
